Darlene Pergola-Apolant-is A Playwright, Actress/Thespian and Board member for G. I. A. A. (Guild For Italian American Actors) and sports enthusiast Studying at the Prestigious Lee Strasberg Institute under the watchful eye of world renowned Michael Margotta, her work includes Stage, Film and commercial credits. Leaving the stage behind to study communications and Public relations at NYU to pursue a career in Public Speaking.
To date, Darlene has been representing clients for over 2 decades As a Publicist and Special Events Coordinator worldwide working with clients such as, Steve Martin, Madonna, B52's, Prince, Yoko Ono, Paula Abdul and Jimmy Smits. She was the Publicist/Spokesperson and Special Events Coordinator for top NYC venue's Belmont lounge, Viscaya Lounge and the New York City Restaurant Group, hosting parties for Charlize Theron and numerous opening parties for Broadway shows and movie premiers working with top Hollywood and Broadway celebrities. She has also made her mark representing Broadway shows, working hand in hand with, The Public Theatre, The Vineyard Theatre, Labyrinth Theatre and Central Parks "Shakespeare in the park's" summer series.
Owner of Pergola Communications and Special events, she is A mother, wife and Advocate who also serves in her community. Adamant to bring tennis one of her passions, back into the community, she worked hand in hand with the United States Tennis Association and Jericho Schools and organized tennis programs to be brought back into the Elementary Schools Physical Education Programs. Pursuing it one step further, she organized an annual Tennis Fundraiser along with JEF (Jericho Education Foundation) and Sportime Syossett, in hopes that the community will be receptive to getting the sport back into the Jericho Community. She sits on the Executive Board for the PTA and writes for the Syosset~Jericho Tribune and The Syosset Advance while continuing to donate her services for non-Profit organizations such as Paving Pathways for Tomorrow and Nico Vigliotti's fight for life, to help people in need.
Growing up in Port Washington, NY, Darlene started playing tennis at the ripe age of 8 a with Legend Sam Shore at Shore Tennis Club and The Port Washington Tennis Academy. She was a junior Pro by the age of 13 when she suffered a career ending injury. After surgery and lengthy rehabilitation she managed to get her tennis game back on track to play for her High School Tennis Team and Nassau Community College. A Tennis and Fitness Enthusiast, She has a USTA Tennis ranking of 5.0 and holds Certifications for USPTA (United States Professional Tennis Association) for over 30 years, and she still competes competitively at a National level being to Nationals 5 times in the last 6 years. She also holds certificates for AFA (American Fitness Association) and Spinning ( Mad Dog International). She put her Expertise to the test, working for the Elite company Club Med International. She traveled the world for seven years Running their Tennis and Fitness Programs returning to New York where she became a Tennis Strengthening coach and Tennis Pro for The New York Health and Racket Club in Manhatten where she built a high end clientele and following for over 5 years. A true recreational Sports junkie, she also holds a certificate in Scuba Diving and skiing. Her interests include Photography and film making. She is presently taking her Certificate at IIN, Institute for Integrated Nutrition to become a life coach.
Currently, She is the Host of WTF WITH DARLENE-( Wellness Tennis Fitness) A Wellness Tennis Fitness TV show and Blog she created and produces which airs on Altice cable channel 20 Mondays at 6am and You tube.WTF with Darlene (wtfwithdarlene.com) spotlights community Tennis Pros and programs, Fitness and health enthusiasts, workout routines, Wellness techniques and recipes and so much more. Guests have included Supervisor of the Town of Oyster Bay Joseph Saladino, Author Bart Davis discussing his book Black and White: The way I see it, co-written with Richard Williams the story of Venus and Serena Williams, A fun live show from the first ever NYOPEN at Nassau Veterans Coliseum she interviewed from the USTA Tennis booth with guests from USTA Eastern division ( and her nationals tennis partner) Jenny Schnitzer discussing USTA tennis programs including its Veterans Tennis program in North Port, NY. Also featured on the show was once USTA Eastern President, Daniel Burgess discussing becoming a certified Pro. Author Salomon Levy and his book Salomon’s Wisdom which demonstrates on court tennis training tips to better your tennis game and a favorite with the audience, Christopher Morley Tennis meet and greet for John Isner. This show featured interviews with young up and coming tennis phenoms who are currently training at CMT, interviews with CMT staff discussing Net Generation which is being implemented at Christopher Morley Tennis and its new Facility and wonderful adult leagues and jr. tennis programs.
Darlene currently sits on the board for CHADD ( children and Adult Attention Deficit Disorder) of Nassau County. She is an advocate for ADHD determined to raise awareness and educate youth in schools and sports about ADHD. She also is a volunteer and coach for GIRLSONTHERUN.org.
